Georgi Borissov was born on July 17th 1950 in Sofia. He graduated from the Sofia French high school in 1969 and from the Moscow Institute for Literature Maxim Gorky in 1974. From 1976 till 1981 he was editor at the literary newspaper Literaturen Front and Head of the department for fiction and non fiction at the publishing house PROFIZDAT. Since the creation of the literary magazine FAKEL in 1981 he was first appointed as its vice editor-in -chief before becoming editor-in-chief in 1990. He is the founder and director of the publishing houses FAKEL (1991-1995) and FAKEL EXPRESS (1995).


Georgi Borissov has translated poetry from Russsian, French and English. He is the author of the following books of poetry:

"At Noon Sometime at the Beginning" (1977)
"Let Him Be" (1981)
"Doors" (1986)
"The Stranger" (1992)
"The Living God" (1997)

His poems were included in most of the representative Bulgarian poetry anthologies published in the USA, the United Kingdom, Russia and Germany.

He was awarded the national prize for the best book of the year "Vladimir Bashev in 1977 and the Great prize for poetry "The golden chain" of the newspaper "Trud" in 1999.
